Here are notes and pictures out of the first part of the theory module 5 which did not already made it to the blog.

images from protests

In class we created an image cluster of posters and signs made for protest. I personally took a image of the monument build by fans of the football club FC Basle which they created. They where unhappy with the president of the Club and this monument was a statement for the tradition and history of the club and against the President.

It was interesting to see several different posters. Striking was, the amount of poster created by the atelier populaire, which i didn't knew before.

The Atelier Populaire, who designed and printed the posters, were a group of Marxist artists and art students who occupied the École des Beaux-Arts during with the wave of wildcat strikes in May 1968.[2][3] Using a silk-screen printing press they produced thousands of posters at a time.[3] They typically were printed on newssheet using a single colour, and use a simple iconography in which the factory represents the role of workers in society and the fist stands for solidarity and resistance (see right).[3]

In the end we were confronted with the question how our protest poster would look like an what is it protesting against. For me personally was this question hard. I don't want to take a space which should be used by someone really having something to protest. With my background and privilege i am super well blessed and I should try to give back and clear the stage for people having a message.

manifesto party

The task for the next course was to find a manifesto before 1900. Which was quite hard because most of the relevant manifesto are from after 1900. Still everbody manage to find something. First it got clear, we had to define what a manifesto is.

For me the explanation which I found here https://www.britannica.com/topic/manifesto is quite fitting.

manifesto, a document publicly declaring the position or program of its issuer. A manifesto advances a set of ideas, opinions, or views, but it can also lay out a plan of action. While it can address any topic, it most often concerns art, literature, or politics. Manifestos are generally written in the name of a group sharing a common perspective, ideology, or purpose rather than in the name of a single individual.

Important to note, and also mentioned in class is that manifesto often are a reaction to a new technology appearing.

positioning myself

After the manifesto party we tried to position ourself through a triplet of questions.
